Back to School

Cabrillo=High school but without the excuse of everyone being under 18.
It's my fault though, for taking required Gen Ed classes that everyone has to take. No one cares, but we all just have to fucking do it... Please, as if everyone is taking meteorology because they want to learn about the weather. (4 units of science that isn't physics or chemestry anyone?)

suck it EDUCATION. fuck you COFFEE

I'll make my livin' by winning beauty pageants.

You don't like me, you just like the chase

A Little too late?
I'm so into this song, and apperently I'm obsessed with this man (I can't believe I just linked that...whatever). This post is blatent blog thievery, but I can't help it. I just want to bring pop covers to the masses.

Too Little Too Late- Daniel Rossen ...as in, from Grizzly Bear.

And if you sadly don't know the original:

"I want you to know, when I look in your eyes...

That I love Grizzly Bear! It's been almost a year since I first heard their LP Yellow House and their new EP Friend is out.
Slightly one dimentional music has never bothered me but it's fun to see when music I suspect fits this category doesn't actually.

And not that you actually care, but this song is pretty cool:
Grizzly Bear- Shift (alternate Version)

(too bad gorillas are still better...)

Hello Tomorrow...

I think I'm going to start a mix tape.
Also,
I've had this song stuck in my head for the last few days and I don't know why.

Wow, what effective marketing. I remember this commercial, didn't you?

Um, Oh My God?!?!?!

Has every one know about this but me?! And is it possible that Arrested Developement has gotten even funnier?!

It's Worth your Hard Drive Space

...to download In Rainbows. And if it's your style, it's worth your cash too...
I heard Weird Fishes/Arpeggi on college radio today. It was nice (... not actually this version. I just like this version).

Anyway, there are probably a million and a half blogs about this album right now, and i'm happy to join the numbers. And if you haven't heard or heard of this album yet, I don't know where you've been. I didn't give all the internet hype over this album much consideration, but now that I actually have In Rainbows I'm happy I do. I like it. Radiohead is just a solid band. You might even like them a year form now...

Angelic Murderers

If I ever decide that I'm tired of being civilized, I am totally gonna start killing some peeps and watch CSI for ideas. Seriously...they just give out ways to kill people and then since you find out how they get caught you know you wouldn't make that mistake. I mean I would be a lazy killer so this would be a great for me and all you other lazy asses. So thank you CSI for making my life as a potential murderer a lot easier.

Its been agreed the whole world stinks so no ones taking showers anymore

My Shower is broken. It's been broken for two weeks. I've taken a shower three times during that two weeks and I've felt disgusting and dirty the whole time.

Yep. Good Story.

Also, I fulfilled my 8th-9th grade dream of seeing Modest Mouse this Sunday. They played my favorite song (not actually the one I quoted) and it was quite a moment.

When can I go into the supermarket and buy what I need with my good looks?

I've been into Tom Waits lately. I don't know what it is, but lately I've been re-evaluating music I didn't think I liked. But Tom is pretty awesome, and the thing about music is that no matter how much you think you know about it, really you don't even know the half of it.

I just realized that this will be my second post that has to do with an actor/artist who was also in Coffee and Cigarettes. It's a shame i didn't like this movie becaue I could have gotten intoGZA and Tom Waits earlier (still a 'no' on the white stripes though... so far) and would probably feel less lame about referencing it so often...

Tom Waits- Goin' Out West

PS- I don't really like Scarlett Johansson, but I think this is going to be funny. I love how she didn't even ask him before she started. He found out by reading the paper...

You knew I had to!

It's here! Finally... But it was funnier when I thought he was taking himself more seriously. To know that he knows it's a joke kinda makes it less funny.

In other goings on, I have come to the sad and regretful realization that I look like (the original) Becky from Roseanne with my fake blonde hair. This is a tradgedy because Becky was always the lamest character and the most annoying. However! She did dress rather amazingly and white-trash-ish, so i guess that is a perk. Observe:

well... not very much in this picture (shockingly the only one I could really find), but if you watch any of the 4th season, the reslembelence is sadly striking.

Also- Im seriously obsessed with this blog, which i guess is fitting.

i find his voice soothing...

Lately, I've been finding myslef looking forward to Mondays. Monday means working and the the end of the weekend, just like during any other time, but I still like them. Mondays means the new This American Life podcast. I seriously love it. If you've never taken the time to listen to This American Life, you have to! It's been around since 1995 and has almost 1.7 million listeners a week (so I'm not going to pretend like I'm exposing you to this amazing new thing or whatever). I used to think it was hard to get in to, but the more I listened, the more interesting and enthralling it was. And usually is. I know Summer from the OC called This American life 'that show where they make regular people sound interesting' and it's true, and in many ways, I think that's the best part about it.

You can even watch it. I wish I had Showtime...

I didn't know what

...day it was. That used to make sense during the summer, but summer is nearly over and I still haven't been paying attention. Working, sewing, reading, drinking, baking, riding, sleeping, not drinking coffee or smoking cigarettes or making any effort to talk to people (excpetions-you know who you are?). That about sums it up for me, but (mostly) it's enough to distract me. Whatever... I hope you're having the best summer of your life.

Oh yeah- And the summer song is still just as elusive as it was two months ago. What is up with that?!

I Feel Less Wise Already...

I got my wisdom teeth out almost a week ago. It's like the biggest thing that's happen to me in the past few days so it's practically all I talk about to people when I see them around. Sadly this is a very boring subject for people to hear about. About as boring as it is to go through! But, now that I'm moving up from mashed potatoes and thai noodles things are looking up (see- this is boring!!!) and I'm left with a little stash of vicodin and a new show to watch obsessively:

Who has the DVDs!?! Holler at me...

For your "Safety"

Drug tests are such a joke. I'm not a stoner. Seriously, I'm not. I'm also not a total newcomer to weed though and summer so far has felt rather long and appropriate for mild usage (am i right? am I right?). First I was worried when I found out that I would be required to take a drug test for my newest job but it was really all for nothing. A week drug free and about a gallon of water will pretty much put anyone in the clear, apparently. It's so pointless, but hopefully the world will feel safer knowing that a druggie hasn't been helping them.

Also, my brother recently got a ticket while riding his bike. He rode through a crosswalk while someone was walking through the other end of it. Again, I hope that the world feels much safer now that he is $411 poorer. Surely we can all learn a valuable lesson on the importance of bike safety and the glorious and just legal system that will fine bikers more than they would drivers speeding 40 miles over the limit. I will be able to sleep easy tonight. Beware all you bike enthusiasts who don't feel the need to stop at stop signs at the bottom of hills or who are crazy enough to ride anywhere downtown, among many other possible bike related infractions. Justice will be served!

Fitting!

Sometimes I find this band obnoxious, but I like this song and the video was all too fitting for this latest "holiday". This song is actually making me interested in the "upcoming" album...

I have to say that the 4h of July is pretty much the lamest American drinking holiday because it thinks it's better/more than a drinking holiday, when it totally isn't. And to be honest, what is with the fireworks? Maybe America is just really into blowin' stuff up for no reason? blahblahblahmildlypoliticalblahblahblah peace out.

Curtis- New Album Out Soon...

And who cares?
With a very typical (and pretty boring) video for his new song 'Amusement Park ', 50 Cent's new stuff doesn't seem like anything special... Well, not everything can be as brilliant as "In Da Club." And to all you Curtis fans out there (it's just so fun to call him that), chances are I'm wrong, but I'll let you decide for yourself:

Whatever, apparently 50 Cent Is TRASH anyway:

You Know What I Mean?

Kellz Does it Again!!

I love a good "Sylvester" Production! R. Kelly has such a flare for storytelling so it should come as no surprise that his video for "Same Girl" featuring Usher would be as stunning as it is.

Not to bring up this band too much, but was anyone else thinking of what Broken Social Scene song would go with that?

While Feist slowly takes over the world...

Broken Social Scene presents Kevin Drew . Precious! Despite the mildly tacky cereal eating thing... but at least that means it's not overly cute right?
(okay, okay, Feist isn't THAT bad, and I do enjoy the cute every so often...)

My name is Rachel. R-A-C-H-E-L...

and I'm addicted to the show Intervention. I've actually only seen one episode, but I need to see more. I'm seriously haunted by my last Intervention experience. I find ways to bring it up in conversation and I suggest watching it to all my friends who are bored (bored enough to watch TV or do drugs, either one). I just find addictions really fascinating and I want them to do shows on cigarettes and coffee (things that I'm practically addicted to anyway). I may just have to do it myself...
